Trained as a molecular biologist and biochemist in Germany and Austria, Bernhard did his Ph.D. on the characterization of histone methyltransferases in cancer at the University of British Columbia. In the Sauvageau lab, he is interested in the (epi)-genetics of normal and leukemic stem cells. He uses both computational and experimental approaches with a growing focus on functional genomics.
